I became friends with one of the former nurses at my rheumy office and all of a sudden about 20 minutes ago i just got flush like I do with fever and then starting sweating. She said this was my body fighting the RA and sometimes it can cause fevers and them to break. I've been a bit nauseated today wondering if that's tied to it..in 20 years ive never experienced this. It was a bit scary

Members responded with empathy and validation to a question about whether fever-like symptoms and nausea can occur during an RA flare, with many confirming this is a real and sometimes frightening experience. Several members shared that they also experience flushing, sweating, tingling skin, and nausea during flares, with some noting that vomiting can occur in severe cases. Practical tips included chewing papaya enzyme tablets at the first sign of nausea, keeping Bonine tablets on hand, and snacking on saltines with mild tea to settle the stomach.

Yes, experiencing fever-like symptoms, including fever breaking and feeling nauseous during RA flares is a recognized symptom pattern. Up to one-third of people with RA experience systemic (whole-body) symptoms during flares. These can include fever, sweating, and feeling generally unwell, as if coming down with an illness. While it can be scary to experience new symptoms after many years with RA, some members report varying symptoms during different flares. Some experience low-grade fevers that come and go, while others have reported stomach upset and bloating during flares. The duration and intensity of these symptoms can vary significantly from person to person and even between different flares in the same person. If you're experiencing new or concerning symptoms, it's always best to inform your rheumatologist. They can help determine if these symptoms are related to your RA and work with you to manage them effectively.
