Members rallied around someone whose insurance denied Humira in favor of a cheaper biosimilar, sharing the frustrating reality that insurance companies often prioritize cost over proven effectiveness, with approval battles taking weeks of back-and-forth between doctors and insurers. Several members described their own forced switches to biosimilars like Hyrimoz and Simlandi, with one sharing the heartbreaking outcome of waiting eight months to prove the biosimilar failed before getting approved for a different medication, during which time their joints deteriorated permanently. A recurring theme was the importance of appealing the decision with support from a rheumatologist, staying persistent through the process, and understanding that insurance may require proof of biosimilar failure before approving the original medication.

I received a pair of Hyrimoz pens very early this year but I still have Humira in my fridge. I will delay Hyrimoz use until after my dental procedure on 1/20. If all goes well at the dentist, I will start Hyrimoz in early February if other issues do not cause conflict. After full dental recovery I will try Hyrimoz.

Good luck my friend. I do hate when they switch meds on us. Keep us informed on how it works for you. 💕

Our insurance here in Canada did the same thing due to cost. Switched Humira for the biosimilar Hyrimoz. I had to stick with the Hyrimoz for 8 months to prove it failed before they would allow me to start Actemra. Hyrimoz did absolutely nothing for my RA symptoms. Sent my joints back big time. My wrists, hands and fingers have not recovered.
