Aspirin and Tylenol (acetaminophen) are both used to manage symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but they work differently and have different side effects.

**Aspirin:**
- **Type:** Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
- **Function:** Helps treat RA by suppressing substances that contribute to inflammation and pain.
- **Usage:** Follow doctor's directions or package instructions. Do not exceed recommended dosage.
- **Form:** Available as a tablet or caplet.
- **Common Side Effects:** Bleeding, gastrointestinal ulcers, abdominal pain, upset stomach, rash, drowsiness, nausea.

**Tylenol (Acetaminophen):**
- **Type:** Not an NSAID; it's primarily a pain reliever and fever reducer.
- **Function:** May be used for occasional joint pain in RA.
- **Usage:** Should be discussed with a doctor, especially regarding dosage and frequency.
- **Considerations:** Has fewer risks for gastrointestinal issues compared to NSAIDs but should be used cautiously due to potential liver damage at high doses.

Both medications should be used under medical supervision to ensure safety, especially considering the potential for side effects and interactions with other medications.

I take both. Aspirin is a daily item because it is taken for my heart. As for Tylenol, it is only taken on an as basis due to chronic migraines. Being under the care of specialists I am in very good hands.

As a general rule, Tylenol is gentler on the stomach. Don't overdo it however, or it can put quite a hurtin' on your kidneys. Just my two cents worth. Best wishes.
