Members shared widely varied experiences with leflunomide after methotrexate stopped working, with some finding it effective alone or in combination with other medications like Humira, Plaquenil, or Orencia, while others experienced challenging side effects including elevated liver enzymes, nausea, diarrhea, hair loss, headaches, fatigue, and in rare cases neuropathy. Several members offered practical advice including pushing through initial gastrointestinal symptoms that often resolved after a few weeks, taking regular liver enzyme tests, avoiding certain foods, splitting doses between morning and evening, and recognizing that finding the right RA medication often requires patience and trial and error. A recurring theme was that RA treatment is highly individual, with members emphasizing the importance of advocating for yourself, combining medications when one alone isn't enough, monitoring side effects closely, and maintaining hope that the right combination will eventually provide relief.

Hi Veronica
Sorry to hear that MTX stopped working..I am of the opinion that medicine alone is not enough. Yes we NEED to take medicine but together with it we NEED to control our diet and REGULAR STRETCHING EXERCISES..
we need to find our which food don’t agree to our stomach. I stopped taking milk for almost 10 years also reduced the use of coffee and tea to ONE per day.
Occasionally I take yoghurt and Cheese…..NO RED MEAT.
I avoid all pulses except for GREEN GRAM. Also avoid all night shade vegetables. This may be different for others. The main thing is you take care of your GUT HEALTH. Take small meals 5 times a day and regular exercise no matter good day or bad day. Bad days are very difficult to do exercises BUT YOU NEED TO DRAG YOURSELF TO DO IT…. THINK ABOUT YOUR HEALTH AND DO IT WITH PLEASURE .
I don’t know anything about leflunomide… hope it will help you…. Wish you all strength
God Bless

"Leflunomide is used to relieve symptoms caused by active rheumatoid arthritis, such as inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain. This medicine works by stopping the body from producing too many of the immune cells that are responsible for the swelling and inflammation.Nov 1, 2023" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK557799/

I take Leflunimide and Humira. It did not work for me alone. But it works great with the Humira combo.
