Members overwhelmingly reassured someone preparing for hip replacement surgery that recovery is significantly easier than knee replacement, with many who had experienced both procedures emphasizing less pain, faster mobility, and simpler rehabilitation for hips. Several members shared practical recovery tips, including walking as much as possible starting immediately after surgery, using ice packs regularly, ensuring adaptive equipment like raised toilet seats and walkers are ready at home, and faithfully completing physical therapy exercises multiple times daily while avoiding bending or crossing legs for the first six weeks. A recurring theme was the importance of choosing an experienced surgeon, staying ahead of pain with medications, building upper body strength beforehand, and maintaining a positive attitude throughout recovery, with the original poster later updating the community that she was walking well and reducing pain medications by eight weeks post-surgery.

Kiddo, you got this! You will recover well and start being sassy and strutting your walk! Glad the new pain med is working. Never heard of Norco. But I will look it up! Wishing you a pain free holiday.

Hi Ricky, I’m doing pretty good . No racing yet but … I’ve finished my 2 weeks of in home physical therapy. Getting around well using my walker. Took my first unassisted shower this morning. Making progress every day. Hope you have a restful night 💕

Yes Charlene. You really do have to stay ahead of the pain. First physical therapy was today. One day at a time.

Phew! Bet you are happy the surgery is over. Now recovery begins! How are you feeling? I hope they gave you plenty of pain pills. Don't wait for the pain. Take on schedule. Trying to chase the pain doesn't work as well.
