Can rheumatoid arthritis cause cachexia?
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can lead to a metabolic state called rheumatoid cachexia, or muscle wasting. This form of cachexia happens when your body loses muscle mass and keeps fat mass. Your body develops this condition due to chronic inflammation and lack of physical activity from RA.Apr 3, 2022
Hubby is the RA patient. He was going to PT for years twice a week. Took off for 2 months and lost ANOTHER FOUR lbs. Going back on March 1. He HATES to exercise, whereas I LOVE it!
No, but have exercised and lifted weights!
Have done this, even though it is difficult sometimes! If you’re able, swim, w/o, and walk! Also yoga is good! If you can not, get with your rheumatoid doctor and work towards this goal!
Never give up!!

Muscle wasting is what most people call it. I am hoping mine comes back quickly. My body looks terrible! I wish I could find a hot pool physical therapy place. Most closed during covid and many are not opening up again. I don't know why. I usually do it every winter. It is so great and some have a treadmill in it. First time I could enjoy using a treadmill.
I doubt that there is a test for it! Just a name for it if you are experiencing it. Just to put a label on it.
I wonder how it is tested? I have muscle wasting due to lack of exercise the past few years.
