My Dr said I was safe taking it. I was on it for 15 years which ruined my adrenal glands. You should get off by cutting it into and do it for a month and then none. I have major problems now and have to take hydrocortisone pills and salt to stay alive

Thank you for responding. I have been on 5- 7.5 mg of prednisone for 16 years. My prescribing rheumatologist told me that I was safe on low dose prednisone but now the negative effects (bruising, skin thinning and tearing, and weight gain and redistribution) are increasing so I want to gradually get off prednisone if that is possible. At the same time, my fingers and wrists are swollen, painful and losing function so hoping that ACTHar makes a difference- just started on it last week. Take 1 ml twice/week.

Hi. I’ve had 29 athcar injections. It had really helped me. I’ve reduced my prednisone from 60 milligrams to 1 milligrams over this period of taking athcar gel (about 3 months). I do wish the positive effects lasted longer. I take 2 injections/week and I am really ready when it’s time for my injection. It does take about 12 hours to get the effects. Hope that helps.

I only could take three does of acthar and stop, severe reactions from them, was not put back on prednisone. Going to see dr. Next week, having big problem with lightheadedness and very swollen legs. Well I reluctantly started on ACTHar in hopes of ultimately reducing my daily 7.5 mg prednisone dose (over 15 years). By 10 weeks of biweekly injections, I gained 10 pounds around my upper abdomen and had edema in my legs and face. I decided to taper off of it and then had increased inflammation as I had tapered the prednisone down to 2.5 mg. So the flare of symptoms resulted in going back up on prednisone and trying to taper down to 5 mg/daily. I am having a very difficult time losing the weight gain. I really regret going on this $$$$$$ medication.
