My Rheumatologist Told Me That Methotrexate Would Take Away My Pain

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

My rheumatologist told me that methotrexate would take away my pain, but it hasn't. Is that realistic? It's also causing hair loss (for the past 3 months). Should I switch to a different med?

As I understood it Methotrexate helps to control the condition but not so much the pain....next time you do your labs look at the changes and review with your RA provider, could be you need a combination to get you sorted out. Good luck

Yes, each person is different. I have been on Methotrexate for over 10 years and it has helped me. I have to be cautious and anytime I have a surgery, I have to go off the medication for a few weeks. I also know the day is coming (hopefully no where soon) but when I will probably have to change meds and I do not look forward to that.

Hi Catherine, I am taking methotrexate and it took just over 5 months before it started to work. Everyone is different so it may not take that long for you.
