Methotrexate

I have been on Methotrexate along with various other medications for almost 8 years now. Recently I have noticed a lot of hair thinning. The only things that have changed medically are the addition of Cimzia and switching from Folic Acid to L-Methylfolate (specialized form of folic acid). I know this is supposed to be a rare reaction, so was just wandering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I believe Methotrexate contributes to hair thinning. Folic acid is said to help. I take 2 grams daily, But after many years on MTX my hair is definitely thinner.

I'm so sorry! I have gone through so many different medicines I can't even remember half of them!! And you are right - it does not help the depression!

Yes, i am back on Methotrexate and have noticed that my hair is thinning. Adds to the depression I feel. I've been out of work since February and though I am on Remicade infusions I find that it is now not working. This is just horrible!

Methotrexate was originally a Chemotherapy that they had discovered works for RA and I too had lost a lot of hair as well and thank goodness I don't take it anymore otherwise I may ended up bald.

- Severe Psoriasis: It slows the growth of skin cells to stop scales from forming.

Administration:
- Forms: Methotrexate comes as a tablet to take by mouth and as an injection (intramuscular, intravenous, subcutaneous, or intrathecal).
- Schedule: Your doctor will determine the schedule based on your condition and response to the medication.

Important Considerations:
- Side Effects: Methotrexate can cause nausea, extreme tiredness, loss of appetite, and more. It may also cause liver and lung damage.
