COVID Vaccine And Autoimmune Disorders?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Riverside, CA

I've read several posts about the COVID Vaccine causing an autoimmune response such as RA. I found this article written by the NIH and thought I would post it here. It seems the Medical Scientists are researching this condition post COVID vaccine. Please read the article if you're interested. Fair warning, it is very long and somewhat complicated. Hopefully one of the Doctors that post articles on these forums can interpret the research for us.

What are your thoughts about the research?

Members shared deeply personal experiences regarding COVID vaccines and autoimmune disorders, with many describing the onset or significant flare-ups of rheumatoid arthritis shortly after vaccination, ranging from severe joint pain and loss of hand strength to debilitating inflammation that prevented work for months. Several members discussed their decision to forgo additional boosters due to these reactions, while others continued vaccination despite flares, believing the shots reduced COVID severity and prevented hospitalization, with some attributing their milder cases to being on medications like Plaquenil and Actemra. A recurring theme was the community's call for more research into the vaccine-autoimmune connection, frustration over the lack of clear answers from the medical community, and the shared hope that future treatments or vaccines specifically for RA might emerge.

Good morning Barbara,

So far through my research I found Australia is working on a Vaccine for RA. It's called Rheumavax. It seems they've been working on the vaccine for quite some time. Hopefully, one day they'll get to the point where it's available to the public.

I had RA prior to the covid pandemic..... I have noticed a different in my RA after my two vaccines and one booster..... Not getting anymore vaccine I never got the flu vaccine...... It's frustrating.
Hopefully they can get medication/solution for RA as fast as they came up with a vaccine for covid 🙏.

I was diagnosed with RA after my first covid shot and haven't gotten any more.My family doctor blames the shots on a huge spike in autoimmune disease as well as cancer,Strokes and Heart attacks. He told me him and some other doctors have been trying to get the health department to suspend the use of these vaccines until more research can be done but they won't because they are being paid by the drug companies to keep it going. All about money sadly.

I took part in a study in the UK
Checking methextrate effect on the vaccine

The study showed it made the vaccine less effective, but if you stop methextrate 2 weeks before your jab it showed as working as per it should
