Members shared their experiences with Cymbalta for rheumatoid arthritis, with many explaining that while it helps manage pain and can improve mood, it does not treat the underlying RA itself and is often prescribed when fibromyalgia coexists with RA. Several members reported taking Cymbalta for years with positive results, describing it as a non-opioid pain reliever that boosted their energy and helped with depression, though one member noted it didn't work for their anxiety and they had to return to their previous medication. A recurring theme was the importance of pairing Cymbalta with actual disease-modifying drugs like Humira, methotrexate, or Leflunomide to control the rheumatoid arthritis rather than relying on prednisone or pain management alone.

Cymbalta or Duloxetine is a great medication for pain! It is a serotonin norepinephrine Reuptake inhibitor. It acts as an analgesic non opioid I take it myself and have for over 10 years. I believe your rheumatologist is making a wise decision and maybe more rheumatologists will. No one that I know unless absolute has no other choice at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical uses steroids.

I started talking cymbalta by suggestion of rheumatologist. Good thing too, the RA was really causing some depression too. Only 2 weeks on, and no major side effects. More energy so far.

I would check with your primary doc but Cymbalta is given with Celexa it can be, without problems.
