Members overwhelmingly agreed that sugar worsens arthritis symptoms by triggering inflammation, with many sharing firsthand experiences of increased pain and flares after consuming sugar, bread, pasta, and processed foods. Several members described practical dietary changes that helped reduce their symptoms, including eliminating refined sugars, high fructose corn syrup, gluten, dairy, and processed grains, while substituting with alternatives like stevia, coconut sugar, honey, and whole grains. A recurring theme was the importance of reading nutrition labels carefully, experimenting with elimination diets to identify personal triggers, and accepting that while cutting out favorite foods can be difficult, the relief from pain and inflammation makes it worthwhile.

Absolutely. My bloodwork shows a huge difference when I'm eating sugars and breads, vs. when I don't. (So obviously, as a rule, I don't. 😃)

I agree with Karen87. Sugar and rich foods in general. Mother’s Day dinner was quite a feast. I paid with extra aches and pains for several days

Pasta, bread, and refined sugar did also make my pain worse. I have cut those drastically out of my diet.
