Otrexup Auto Injector

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

What have your experiences with the otrexup injections been like? I have a prescription for a 20mg otrexup injector (methotrate) and am pretty scared to start taking it. Does anyone have any wisdom or tips to get me started on my much needed medication?

Hi Sophia, there is no need to be scared, I am on Injections myself. If you follow the instructions , it should be absolutely painless, except for a little stinging at the site afterwards. The sound of the automat is a bit scary in the beginning. If you experience anxiety and not sure about your technique, you should be able to talk to your surgery(doctor or a nurse) for help.
Keep in mind the injection has fewer side effects than the pills.

Have a lovely day

I take methotrexate but I take it in pill form. I take 28 mg a week.
For me it's helped to keep my arthritis stable. I have never taken it an injection form. I think that would probably be better if you needed more immediate relief.

Orencia didn’t work for me. It made my fatigue worse and I actually stayed in bed more after starting it. I was out on Rinvoq after and it’s been a miracle drug for me . Helps so
