Does Weather Affect You? Good Or Bad?

I live in NY and the weather can be difficult. We have four seasons, so you never know what kind of a day you're going to get! I have RA and OA, each one having it's own set of issues. I'm thinking about moving to SC where my son lives, but not sure since it's such a big move. I love warmer weather as it makes me feel better. What does everyone think about weather and our medical issues?

Members shared deeply personal perspectives on whether warmer climates help relieve RA and OA symptoms, with the overwhelming majority reporting that cold and damp weather worsens joint pain while warm, dry conditions bring relief, though high humidity proved challenging for many. Several members described dramatic improvements after relocating to warmer states like Florida, Arizona, and South Carolina, with one member noting their pain disappeared within hours of landing and another enthusiastically reporting they now walk freely without worrying about snow and ice. A recurring theme was that finding the right climate is deeply individual and worth exploring through extended visits before making a permanent move, and that having a supportive medical team in the new location makes all the difference in managing the transition successfully.

A good doc makes all the difference in the world and good Rheumotologist is very hard to come by. I have a great one, but the first one I saw was awful. So bad that my primary care doc won’t let anyone in his office send any patients there. I have a great team of docs that work well together, my primary care doc, my Rheumotologist and Mr pulmonologist work so very well together. I couldn’t ask for better and for us that can make all the difference in the world. Don’t just settle, keep going until you find a doc that will listen to you.
Have a blessed day.

I do not do well in damp wet or humid weather. Dry heat is the best for me.

My rheumatologist does not agree that warmer weather is better than colder weather. He feels that when you have RA and OA you will be hurting no matter where you move to. I beg to differ. I feel better with the warmer weather. As long as it's not to humid. The cold weather does bother my joints badly. We now reside in Florida from October thru May and down state NY for the summer months. We have been doing this since 2020 and I have been doing better.

Rarely get very hot weather and only short spells of really cold weather in Stoke-on-Trent in North Midlands of England. Cold and damp weather are the ones I find more general discomfort. So far Methotrexate and Hydroxchloroquine make a big difference to my life style.
