I am taking all three. The folic acid protects against side effects of methotrexate. Methotrexate is considered the "gold standard" of RA treatment. It usually help a lot. Prednisone is good for flares, but you should strive for a low dose when you can manage.

Methotrexate can deplete the body of folic acid so that's why it is recommended to take folic acid on the days that you don't take the methotrexate.
