Shooting Debilitating Knee Pain

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

My areas of struggle were always my feet and hands but now I’m getting a sharp shooting pain in my knee and it can come on anytime at rest, walking, standing. It is like 10/10 pain. It is now waking me up while I’m sleeping. Then it will go away and then come right back or come back in an hour or whenever. My knees hurt when I have a flare as well. I also have osteo arthritis in my right knee and the pain is unbearable and I am awaiting a knee replacement but generally when I have a flare like I said my knees hurt as do my elbows 🤷🏼‍♀️ Strange I know. Hope your ok xx

Could be fibromyalgia. I get that type of pain in the muscles and tendons from fibro. It requires different types of meds.

I have experienced this exact symptom and I would say it is definitely RA related. It feels like an invisible knife just stabbed you in the knee/thigh. I experience this mostly when I’m sitting and not moving around.

It comes, lasts a few seconds and then goes away.

The torment of RA is never ending, sorry you experience this too

RA can present in a lot of ways but what you describe is "atypical." I would probably seek a steroid injection into the knee and see if that helps.
