I've Had Migraines Since I Was 8 Years Old, Medicine Exacerbates RA Pain.

I've been on Imitrex for about 15 years and it works amazingly for me in terms of migraines. I've tried other prescriptions for my migraines and none have ever worked as well as Imitrex. However, when I take Imitrex it really causes me to feel my joint pain two-fold. My hands swell, I can hardly bend my fingers and my feet hurt. I'm thankful to have the migraine gone, but the exchange ALMOST isn't worth it

My migraines were getting much worse after I was diagnosed with RA, I was also waking up with tension headaches every day. I am not sure if it affected the RA pain but the migraines were much worse than before RA. Eventually, I went to a headache specialist, a neurologist. She figured out what was going on and prescribed a muscle relaxant that I take every night so I don't get the migraines. I don't like taking more medication but it's great to live without headaches. Occasionally I get a migraine and have to take sumatriptan.

I have the same problem with my migraine meds effecting my RA. Imitrex doesn't bother as much as Zomig does. I tell myself the stiffness and swelling are better than hugging the porcelain throne. A friend of mine thinks that the same weather issues that effects my migraines causes my issues with RA, it could be both for me.

I used to be on Relpax and it worked great. Due to Insurance reasons they changed me to Imitrex. It takes longer to work and doesn't work as long or as well. It gives me a swelling type feeling in my neck muscles, shoulders, arms and hands. I have put up with it but am looking to switch back to Relpax if I can.

I've suffered migraines for years. Whole different diagnosis 15 yrs. ago I still have them, seems every single day of my life! I've taken excedrin migraine forever .... take 3 lay down 15 - 20 min they've been bad lately, salivating till I'm sick, pouring sweats, crying spells. I can't even believe some of the changes happening to me! I call myself a trainwreck. I've also taken prescription migraine meds.
