I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, diagnosed 2016, had strokes in 2018, was put on Atorvastatin for high cholesterol and stroke prevention in 2018, can the statin be the cause of this pain in my calf muscles? Only had it last 6 to 8 months

Members discussed whether statins, particularly Atorvastatin, could be causing severe calf and arm muscle pain, with several sharing their own experiences of statin-related muscle pain that led them to stop or switch medications. The original poster found relief after stopping Atorvastatin temporarily with their doctor's guidance, and later switched to a lower-dose Lovastatin at their stroke clinic follow-up due to persistently high cholesterol levels. Members also suggested low potassium as a potential contributing factor, recommending foods like bananas and V-8 juice alongside checking with medical providers about any medication concerns.

I had been having them to and they were aweful. I did get my dr, to prescribe me prescription for potassium and I eat a banana every day. Pain isn't completely gone but not what it used to be. I hope you find something to work for you.

low potassium most of the time is the problem and if you are on a water pill and no potassium supplement, it may be your problem, statins usually flare the joints with muscle fatigue, so if stopping statins doesn't work try high potassium foods like v-8 juice or bananas

I have had high cholesterol and tried three different statins. It caused my arm muscles to have pain with all three. I tell all of my doctors that I have an allergic reaction that refuse to take any more statins.
