I am on Enbrel injections also using eye drops for dry eyes seems a side effect of Enbrel. My right eye is quite painful and slightly bloodshot in the upper corner. Has anyone experienced this.

Members responded to someone experiencing painful, bloodshot eyes while on Enbrel, with most sharing that they had not experienced this particular side effect on Enbrel but several noted dry eyes as a common symptom of RA itself or from other medications like methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine. Several members offered practical strategies including preservative-free eye drops like Systane or Restasis, fish oil and omega-6 supplements, and sleeping with an eye mask to prevent dryness overnight. A recurring theme was the importance of consulting with doctors and specialists to rule out infections or other causes, as one member ultimately needed antibiotic eye drops and was scheduled to see an eye specialist after weeks of discomfort.

Hey Giovanni. I know what you mean about early appointments! Before I got so bad again, I was a teacher who had to be at work by 7:15 am and ready to go. I was up by 5 am. Not anymore. Glad your eyes are getting better. I missed one dose of Enbrel after my surgery, so that's not too bad. It's time to get it back in your system!

My father in law takes hydroxycloroquine for RA and has severe dry eye and dry mouth. I'm wondering if it's just an RA side effect and not direct enbrel side effect.. I go to rheumatologist soon, I could ask if he's heard of that being an issue with other enbrel patients. On a different note, I think I'm getting an eye infection, fingernails are being affected too! So much more goes into this RA business besides immobility and joint pain!
