Members shared deeply about the persistent nausea caused by methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis, with experiences ranging from mild queasiness managed by taking medication before bed to debilitating sickness lasting six days after each weekly dose, leading some to discontinue the drug entirely. Several members offered practical strategies for managing nausea, including switching from pills to injections, trying an old remedy of lemon pudding chiffon eaten warm before taking medications, and working with doctors to find alternative treatments like Humira, Orencia, or other biologics when methotrexate becomes intolerable. A recurring theme was the difficult trade-off between managing pain and enduring side effects like nausea and hair loss, with members emphasizing the importance of self-advocacy, listening to your body, and working with your medical team to find a treatment plan that improves rather than diminishes quality of life.

Gloria, for the past 6 months I was nauseated constantly. I forced the Dr to take me off of Methotrexate the past 3 weeks to see if that was it and sure enough it was. I told her I would rather hurt more than
be nauseated. She is going to give me something else in its place. I still take Humira too. I will make a suggestion to help with your nausea some. It is an old remedy someone gave me years ago and it helped some but definitely helps with most nausea when you have stomach issues or even throwing up. Buy the lemon pudding that you cook. Prepare like pudding but beat the egg whites stiff and mix in pudding while it is warm. Makes like a chiffon. Eat or feed to someone, especially if they can't eat or before they take meds that make them sick. You can keep out for awhile but otherwise refrigerate. When using more microwave to heat. You can eat it cold but seems to help more when warm. Give it a try. I use it too when someone has a cold or virus.

Methotrexate made me very nauseous. I tried injections of it instead of pills to see if that was better. Didn’t matter. I took it once a week and it made me sick sick until the 6th day. Dr finally took me off it. Said “I’m trying to get you feeling better, not worse”. I just don’t tolerate it.

Hi Sue,
I think I will try the lemon pudding. I’m not a sweets eater, but I do like lemon pudding. It sounds like an easy fix for nausea.
Thank you, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!🎊🎆
