The doctor told me years ago it was bursitis but is that a form of RA or some other arthritis?

Yes, if I'm having a flare it will act up. Laying down to sleep gets challenging. The best thing I have found is to sleep with a pillow under it and icy hot. I try not to sit too long because it seems to make the aching worse.
