Does Anyone Have Experience With RA Foot Problems?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Biloxi, MS

I have begun developing RA nodules on my toes and I always have pain when walking. Hoping someone has advice for the long term i.e. braces, shoes, techniques. Warm soaks help for a bit, but nothing ever really helps. Taking Humira now and will have 5th injection this week. The injections have helped in other areas, but not my feet. Thank you.

Members shared deeply about managing severe RA foot pain and nodules, with many finding relief through specialized footwear like Skechers with memory foam, Ecco shoes, and orthopedic shoes with custom inserts from a podiatrist or physiotherapist. Several members described how daily walking, even through pain, combined with physiotherapy-prescribed orthotics made a significant difference, while others offered practical comfort measures including ice therapy, heated bean cushions, toe cushions from Walmart, and giving themselves permission to rest when needed. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of losing mobility at a young age, the frustration of being misunderstood by family, and the hope that biologics like Humira may take time to work, balanced with sobering stories of infection risks and the need for surgeries including toe amputations and metatarsal procedures.

My feet are a hot mess. I keep moving and give them a break when needed. Standing in one place is very hard. I wear orthopedic shoes and have inserts. I was able to find some somewhat stylish shoes so I am pretty happy with that. Foot pain can be miserable for anyone.

Hi Rachel,
I too have the same and have found that Sketchers shoes really help as they are padded plus expand if your feet do without having the feeling of them being trapped (they can swell without cutting off blood circulation), also i use heated bean cushions to put over my feet when pain is extreme as i find heat can help with the pain . Hope this helps sending gentle hugs Ur way xxx

Gerbyme sorry you’re having trouble with ur feet. Put some ice on ur feet for 10-15 mins and role ur feet on a ice cold bottle 10-15 mins. You need to see a podiatrist so he/she can get you some shoes. I got me some Sketchers with memory foam. They are comfy.💕
