Members responded to a question about pain relief options while taking methotrexate, with most sharing that their doctors recommended Tylenol or acetaminophen as the safest alternative to ibuprofen, particularly because it avoids stomach issues and doesn't interact negatively with MTX. Several members mentioned that their rheumatologists approved occasional use of NSAIDs like Aleve or Naproxen for breakthrough pain, though Tylenol was typically the first-line choice. A recurring theme was the importance of consulting directly with one's own doctor, as individual health factors and medication interactions can vary significantly from person to person.

I take Tylenol Arthritis Strength (generic is Acetaminophen) because it is time release and lasts longer than extra strength.

My doctor will only let me take Tylenol because of issues that other pain medication can cause with your stomach.

I take methotrexate along with Nabumetone, a NSAID, like Tylenol. No problems

When I tried MTX many years ago, I was using aspirin. I'd talk with your rheumy to find out what could be safe for you to use.
