Members widely acknowledged that methotrexate commonly causes significant stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, and exhaustion, with some finding the oral form especially difficult to tolerate. Several members shared practical strategies that helped them cope, including switching to methotrexate injections instead of pills, using ice cubes or Zofran for nausea, drinking ginger tea, taking papaya with medications to protect the stomach, and healing leaky gut as a foundational approach. A recurring theme was the difficult trade-off between managing RA pain effectively and enduring uncomfortable gastrointestinal side effects, with many emphasizing the importance of working closely with doctors to adjust medications or explore alternatives like Orencia or Actemra when one treatment stops working or becomes intolerable.

I was sick for days after taking it which is no good, since I have to function all day. Dr prescribed Rasuvo, ins. won't cover it. Haven't taken anything in almost three weeks, pain sucks but at least I'm not throwing up all day.

Orencia was a good med for me it didn't give me any side effects. But after a few years it just stopped working just like the rest have. You can try drinking ginger tea. It is said that that helps. if your stomach is upset every day, then maybe they need to change your Metho. There are other meds out there that you can use with your Orencia.
It's no fun to have a upset tummy, you have enough to deal with. RA gives plenty of grief. Feel better soon.

I've been on Methotrexate...didn't work. I was on Actemra infusion treatments...TORE UP MY STOMACH! Then they put me on Humira injections. I still had stomach issues and high inflammation.
Docs now have me on Orencia infusion treatments and altho my pain feels better...now I have problems with my large intestine. I can't get a break!
😢
Good luck!
