Excuse my spelling but i was just taken off plaquenil because it gave me a horrible rash and they said it wasnt strong enough for my RA. So they decided to put me on methoxotrate and the way the dr described it and her face like she “really didnt want to and was trying to avoid it but we dont have a choice” and after doing my research, im a little frightened. Can anyone tell me your experience with it? The good and the bad please

I have been on methotrexate for 6 years. I have mouth sores and have lost a lot of my hair but I feel it has helped me with my symptoms. I can deal with the side effects better than pain :)
It takes 2-3 months for Methotrexate to have a consistent level and the side effects tend to diminish.
Thank you Sam... We all do our best to help others through their trials and tribulations. As you stated, no one understands unless they have been in our shoes.
I think venting is one way we get through the rough times... You nailed it! Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend...
I have been on Methotrexate for over a year and have had minimal side effects. Taking Folic Acid helps immensely with mouth sores and hair thinning. Taking the meds after eating helps with any nausea you may have. I didn't have nausea until I started on the injectable form. I started with a low dose of oral MTX and have gradually increased the dosage until we found the amount that works for me. I am now on the lowest dosage of injectable MTX. My autoimmune symptoms are almost completely alleviated. Side effects are pretty much nonexistent.
As SamH stated above, you are going to hear some of the horror stories on here. It's normal to express our fears and disappointments. This site is great for everyone to voice his/her worries, fears, successes, suggestions, support... the whole picture of how this disease and treatments are experienced and viewed. As I stated above,"Folic Acid" is key to helping with the side effects. Without it, I had mouth sores and some thinning hair. They are no longer issues for me. I hope I have helped to ease your mind. My 1st rheumy told me that MTX is a strong medication being used to treat a very aggressive disease. Hugs and Blessings!!!
