Hello everyone,
My rheumatologist has advised that I move off my methotrexate/plaquinil/sulfasalazine combo and change to Simponi injections, once per month.
Can anyone advise me what to expect when using this drug please?
Do I still need to avoid alcohol and sun exposure?
Should I still take folic acid?
Apparently, I will be instructed on its use once funding is agreed.
I was told very little about this medication except it is very expensive and can work well for some people.

I've been on Simponi for 4 years. It has helped me a lot more than any of the other biologics. I am not taking folic acid. I do take hydroxychloriquine. The doctor will give you instructions once your insurance approves. I do Simponi infusions every eight weeks. There is an assistance program to help with cost if you qualify (ask your doctor about it). I like Simponi a lot. I hope it helps you.
My doctor insisted a take folic acid with Methotrexate. I also take plaqlinil (spelling) and so far my labs are good. I guess medications depends on any other medical problems we may have or each person reacts differently.
Thanks everyone for your very helpful replies. I am still waiting for approval for my new meds.
Unfortunately my rheumatologist is a four hour drive so I don’t see her that often.
I will be having a Skype appointment with her when I start my new medication.
At least I now have an insight of what to expect (or not) I suppose I have been pinning my hopes on this being the answer, now I will be more prepared in case it does not work for me.
Best wishes everyone in your own endeavours to best this thing.

I have been taking simponi for the last 2 months and I have had no side effects but to be honest with you I have had no pain relief either so I don't think it's quite working yet. I have been told that it can work very fast for some people so stay optimistic!
