Members shared mixed but mostly positive experiences with methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis pain and inflammation, with many reporting significant improvement when combined with folic acid and other medications like Humira, Enbrel, or Plaquenil, though some noted it worked better for certain joints than others or eventually stopped working altogether. Several members offered practical advice including always taking folic acid alongside methotrexate, considering B complex supplements to help with processing and energy, watching your diet, and being patient as it can take months to see full results. A recurring theme was that while methotrexate carries risks and side effects like feeling sick on injection day, hair loss, or organ concerns, many found the benefits outweighed the drawbacks, with one member sharing how it restored their ability to feed themselves after losing hand function.

Methotrexate works. Even better with Humeria

Same here, since my rheumatologist put me on both methotrexate and folic acid since February for my aching joints (was diagnosed last September) every day, been working great with no side effects. Watch your diet..

I've taken methotrexate and folic acid for several months with no side effects. It has really helped me, Enbrel alone wasnt enough and I had to get off the steroids. Give it a try, you might be surprised with the results.

Give it a try but make sure they write a rx for folic acid and it's wise to take a B complex supplement as it helps in processing folic acid. I tried methotrexate be it wasn't tolerated well but others handle it. You'll feel sluggish coming off steroids so B complex will help a little with that. Please note I'm not a Dr but simply do a lot of research when given a new med for RA. I'm a nerd like that.

I was on MTX injections for two years and it did nothing for me, so my rheumatologist just stopped it. I was also on Cimzia injections and it did not work either.
