Members validated that extreme exhaustion is a common and often dismissed symptom of rheumatoid arthritis, sharing their own experiences of overwhelming fatigue that ranges from needing brief rest periods to sleeping entire weekends despite treatment. Several members offered practical strategies that have helped them manage energy levels, including B12 and vitamin D supplements, CoQ10, glutathione, electrolyte powders, warm water exercise classes, gentle movement to prevent stiffness, and ensuring adequate sleep and hydration, with many emphasizing the importance of staying active even on difficult days. A recurring theme was the frustration of doctors minimizing this symptom, the need to rule out other serious health issues like infections or low iron levels, and the emotional toll of losing energy while fighting to maintain quality of life and not let the disease win.

Same here. I have fibromyalgia as well. I used to be so high energy and since 2003 I’m so tired. It’s so embarrassing. Makes me feel so useless.

I am constantly searching for natural ways to help boost my energy level. Having surgery in January knocked me back to being exhausted all the time.

Some things that have helped: Good B-vitamin complex with methyl cobalamin (B-12) and folate (not folic acid--folic acid sits on your folic acid receptors and keeps the real folate from being able to be absorbed and used) and Ultima replenisher (a sugar free, no artificial anything electrolyte powder you mix with water--like a natural form of gatorade), bone broth protein in smoothies, Now foods glutathione, 500 mg a day in the morning. You don't want to take any of these later than early afternoon because they may keep you awake at night.
Also, CoQ10 for anyone on meds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As with anything, you can experiment and see if you need these every day or every other day...

Someone else on here mentioned a Myer's Cocktail--it's a vitamin IV--I've never done one but she seems to be having great results. You might want to check that out.

I also have a lack of energy on a regular basis. I believe that it is a part of this disease. I wake up many times overnight which I figure has some effect on it. I find I can usually do things for a couple hours at a time end then have to rest.

Fatigue is a given, and RA can throw your mineral balance out of whack. pleas make sure to get you iron levels checked especially if you tend to be anemic. I had experience with very low iron and hemoglobin levels last summer right when school ended that required an emergency blood transfusion--so I know it was going on a while. I had chalked up the extreme fatigue to a very stressful and overworked school year--for all of us--other teachers said they felt the same way, so I didn't think it was just me...
RA can lower those levels.

I too experience this strong fatigue. In the last year it’s been bad. There are days that I just need to close my eyes for 20 minutes. I never had that before. I’m 57 and very energetic but this fatigue ting the best of me. I fight it every day.
