Members overwhelmingly confirmed that taking folic acid with methotrexate is essential, with most sharing that their doctors prescribed it to prevent common side effects like mouth sores, nose sores, and hair loss. Several members offered practical dosing advice, including taking 1-2mg of prescription-strength folic acid daily or the day after methotrexate, combining it with biotin for hair loss, and splitting methotrexate doses to reduce stomach irritation and fatigue. A recurring theme was the importance of regular blood work monitoring and working closely with a rheumatologist to find the right combination and timing of supplements that works for each individual's body.

When I was taking RA meds I was on 8 methotrexate on a Saturday, Folic acid Mon. Tues. Wed. Chloroquine or nivaquine every day (this latter one messes with the eyes) anti-inflammatories and painkillers every day. That mixture over a period of about 14 years nearly killed me, came down with kidney and lung problems, took a long time to recover but was taken off all RA meds. But I think that folic acid is necessary when taking metho. Vera

Thanks methotrexate injection are better than the pills on the digestive system. Methotrexate doesn't weaken your immune system, th RA does. It's an autoimmune disease where your body attacks itself thinking there is an infection when. There isn't. You're ALWAYS suceptible to catching anything that goes around.
As far as hair loss or thinking you need Biotin & folic acid. Dr prescribed pharmaceutical folic acid rather than OTC.
5000 mcg Biotin & 2 mg Folic acid. It HAS helped me a lot!!!
God bless us all!!! ๐Ÿ’•

Yes,it helps your immune system & lessens the chances of side effects. Methotrexate weakens your body and you will be more prone to colds, flu , pneumonia and various infection. It's also good to take vitamin D .

martiKJordak you get a script from your Rheumy or PCP for th folic acid. I buy GOOD Biotin in the vitamin isle. Thanks folic acid OTC didn't work so that why I get a script.
Methotrexate is better tolerated when you split the dose. It's less irritation on your stomach & kind of lessens the blah feeling it gave me.
I never did iron @ all. He monitors that in my blood work.
Good luck & God bless.

I was told not too mix them, and take folic acid the day after the methotrexate. I think it's just a stomach thing that could happen, like ingestion, sore stomach cramps....stuff like that.
