Outside Shoulder Pain And Trying To Sleep When You Sleep On Your Side.
Hi Family
I have added a new pain area and it's driving me nuts. For the last week the outside of the bone on the top of my shoulders are painful. I don't sleep well anyway and this is not helping. I sleep on my side and I can't sleep on my back or stomach. Once I lay down the pressure on the bone in my arms starts pounding. I got about 2 hours of sleep last night and that was only in the recliner, but when I tried to move, my arm I way laying was stuck and hurt like you know what. I am trying… read more
@A myRAteam Member As I was going to bed, I was reminded of how PT had me use a pillow to support my arm and shoulder while lying on my side. Hurting shoulder should be up. Lift your arm and place the end of a pillow under the arm. Lower the elbow and allow the arm to rest in front on the remaining part of the pillow. This reduces stress and pressure on the shoulder. I've got my hubby doing this now due to chronic pain.
Also, I have a tens unit that helps. It hasn't been used in a while and I need to get it out to help him.
Hope that you are getting some relief with some of the many responses on here. Hugs!

Hi @A myRAteam Member, so glad you were able to get some sleep and keep your awesome sense of humor! A couple more ideas for you... just in case!
I loved my heated throw - it is like a full body heating pad!
I switch between salonpas, emu oil, tiger balm or magnesium oil on my neck.
I sleep sitting up, propped up on pillows, and covered with a fuzzy blanket, when the pain ramps up.
I work at computer so gentle posture moves help - pull shoulder blades together, lift top of head up toward ceiling, etc.
If I do sleep on my tummy, i pull one knee up or tuck a small pillow in front To reduce the pressure on my lower back.
Hope getting a little more rest takes the edge off the pain and lets you start healing.
Take care,
Martha
@A myRAteam Member - I'm sorry you are having pain and unable to sleep! Stinking *&%$#! I'm having shoulder pain too, but mine is a tendon I think. I feel like I have a stiff neck, but it's in my left shoulder. Hubby had to go out and buy me a new heating pad because it was hurting so bad last night. The heat feels so good on it, I try to use it 15 on and 15 off. I used it again today, he bought me a "king size" heating pad and I can lay it over my shoulder and it covers front and back. I hope you feel better and can get some rest! Hugs to you!!!!
Yes a heating pad does help a lot. Sometimes my shoulder pain last for weeks at a time. I usually have to get a cortisone shot. I get instant relief. Hope you get to feeling better patches.
Is it possible for surgery to clean out the shoulder will work?
