Members connected over experiencing peripheral neuropathy alongside rheumatoid arthritis, with many describing numbness, burning sensations, and balance issues in their feet and legs that significantly impact daily life. Several members shared their diagnostic journeys, including nerve conduction tests revealing carpal tunnel, MRIs to check for demyelination, and investigations into pinched nerves, with some finding temporary relief through warm water exercise classes while others questioned the effectiveness of gabapentin. A recurring theme was the challenge of distinguishing between RA symptoms and medication side effects, the frustration of managing multiple conditions simultaneously, and the comfort of knowing others understand this difficult overlap.

Yes talk to Rheumatologist about anything feeling- I've used gabapentin for 4 plus years and I really don't think it works- have talked to others and they don't either - have to wean off tho as has some side affects

Hi there! I am sorry to hear- it is not fun! I have had RA since I was a teenager but was not diagnosed til mid 20's- sometimes the tests don't show- I am now 64 and I retired from work in the financial industry after 30years which was 4.5 years ago- and mainly because I ended up with a rare side affect taking Humira- I was on humira for about 6 years and was having some weird symptoms but because I'm used to weird stuff from body I kinda downplayed and my rheumatologist didn't think anything was unusual- BUT- a rare side affect is just that- rare- I ended up in emergency room as having knife stabbbing pain in my mid back that started slowly and built up to constant- I also was seen at Mayo in Rochester so it was verified to the best of knowledge- the Humira- I have to say- was on for 5 years before this started showing- I've been on most everything and now switching from Orencia to Actemra-oh sorry- the rare side affect was demyelination mimicking MS- sooo- now I have numb feet down to hands and midback to sometimes my lips-this week I am going in for 3 hours of MRIs as it seems to be getting worse and I saw my neurologist and that is where we start- ckg for any more plak on spine or brain-wow- Humira commercial on tv right this minute- tripy-anyway- some days are ok as keep busy and some days not so much!! You are strong👍🏻I sometimes have to remind myself of all the other problems / health issues out there and the devil I know is better still- find something you love to do!! I know it gets hard to do sometimes but if nothing then "Andy Griffith" and watch Barnie and Otis!!

good to know it can go away. When I do my warm water arthritis classes, it seems to lessen, but when It's done, it comes back. I go this Thursday to see my rheumatologist, we'll see what he says.

I was wondering my my right foot felt like a piece of meat like when you get numbed for teeth fillings. I wasn't aware that this was a side affect. I was going to see my regular doctor, but I guess I should see my Ra doctor instead. Thanks.

yes, i have that too. I HATE the numbness. I had to have a nerve test and it was determined I also have severe carpel tunnel in both wrists. Sigh. My point is your not alone.
