What Has Been Your Experience With Going On Employer Spinsored Disability?

Who makes that decision? Which doctor handles your disability claim? What where the things you experienced that made your doctor rake you out of work? What if you have multiple conditions that make it difficult to work...then do all of your physicians submit paperwork? The stress of these issues while battling so many others is making life very daunting. Any experience you can share would be appreciated!

Members shared their experiences navigating employer-sponsored disability claims for rheumatoid arthritis, with the consensus being that while you can designate either your primary care doctor or rheumatologist as your main contact, the disability insurer will likely reach out to all treating physicians once the claim is submitted. Several members outlined the typical process: first applying for FMLA (which may or may not be paid depending on your employer and company size), then transitioning to short-term disability if available, followed by long-term disability, which often requires you to simultaneously file for Social Security disability. A recurring theme was the importance of working closely with your Human Resources department and disability coordinator, understanding that the process can take months and may require legal help if initially denied, and recognizing that some rheumatologists may be less supportive than others in providing the necessary documentation.

Same here but when I first tried it was thought I just had fibromyalgia and the court didn’t believe it was really a disease. I retained a lawyer and finally got it due to depression from the RA. Not the RA. This was a long time ago. Hopefully things have changed.

It would depend on who you put in charge I see many Doctors so my Primary care Dr is who I use as he keeps up to date on all my other Dr
Every one of my Dr report back to him. But if you are just applying do to RA related problems you can use your RA Dr.

I always used my Primary Care Dr. As main contact my other Dr report back to him but who ever handles your disability claim will probably contact all your Dr. , once the claim is submitted .first you file for FMLA and if you have paid FMLA once that is used up then if you have long term disability they will start that. Who ever your long term disability is with will also ask you to file for SS disability and will pay up until you are approved. I worked in insurance for years and this is how most company's handle it. Depending on if u have long term disability. Many company's have paid short term that covers the first 12 weeks that is FMLA . Everyone is entitled to FMLA but it is not required that it be paid that is a benefit that is up to employer. Your Human Resources office can help you with everything also.
