Tendon Repair
How soon does tendon repair have to take place once it has become detached ... and after how long a period of detachment is it no longer a viable operation?
I had tendon transfers done , on both hands , in 2016 . You have to get that fixed as soon as possible. With the right exercises , it should be healed by 6 month . You are going to need to make adjustments , on how to use your hands , after that .
Get it fixed soon , it will affect other parts , if you wait too long . The pain is very livable, compared to RA .
I think it would be worth sounding out your doctor on this, don't know how you manage with one thumb!!! Vera
Hi @Neela, I would think that repair should be sooner rather than later, tendons take ages to repair, much longer than a fracture does, I had an unrepaired one some years ago and it took over a year to heal. Vera
I had tendon ruptures on 4 fingers of my left hand and 3 fingers on my right hand because of high inflammation. I got the right hand repaired last August and my left hand last November. Excellent results for my right hand but still in the healing process for the other one. Unfortunately, I still have inflammation in my hands and they still hurt a lot when my arthritis flare-ups. I am methotrexate for 25 mg and prednisone for 2 years ( went from 50 mg and down and up to 50 mg again but now in tapering at 4 mg ). With a lower dose of prednisone, I have more flare-ups than before.
@A myRAteam Member,The one in my thumb became detached some time ago and i did not notice it immediately, i manage with just the one. It was also suggested that it would have shrunk so much by now that not really worth it.
