Is There Anything I Can Do To Help My Fatigue That Causes Me To Sleep For 3 And 4 Days At A Time?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Findlay, OH

I was diagnosed five years ago but I only thought it was just arthritis until about 9 months ago I was getting all these weird things happening and my doctor told me to research rheumatoid arthritis because that's where it's all coming from. Now I sleep for 3 and 4 days at a time and I don't see my rheumatologist until August. Does anyone else have an issue when their hand swell that they just randomly split open and bleed all over?

Members connected over the frightening experience of extreme rheumatoid arthritis fatigue, with several sharing that they too sleep for days at a time and wake up just as exhausted no matter how much rest they get, while others validated the poster's alarming symptom of hands splitting open and bleeding, with one member identifying it as psoriasis that cracks at swollen joints and another confirming their research found it affects only 1% of RA patients. Several members offered practical guidance, including checking vitamin D, B12, and thyroid levels (as deficiencies and autoimmune conditions often overlap), listening to your body rather than pushing through fatigue, and trying immune-boosting supplements like vitamin C, omega-3, and magnesium. A recurring theme was the deep emotional toll of losing independence, struggling to work or care for family, and feeling isolated, met with fierce encouragement from the community to never apologize for complaining, to remember that everyone's pain is valid, and to lean on this space as a refuge where no one has to fight alone.

I’m sorry, I can’t see the pics either. Please don’t ever apologize for complaining or feel your pain is ever less than anyone else. We are each fighting a battle. More importantly, please don’t ever feel alone in your battle! I always feel the enemy wants us to feel isolated, regardless of what our battles are. You are certainly not alone. This site has been a welcoming refuge that I just discovered a couple weeks ago. I hope your labs will help your doctor in getting you the best, most effective treatment so that you can get back to your energetic self, enjoy your life and your grandchildren!

I don’t have the symptoms with my hands bleeding. They only swell and ache, often pink/red at knuckles and joints. I do, however, have the terrible fatigue. 😩 Sometimes I wonder if the fatigue is worse than the pain! Trying to work full time and take care of my family and home is a big struggle. Everyone says I should just get plenty of rest, but it doesn’t matter how much rest I get, I still wake up just as exhausted as when I went to sleep. I take Vitamin D3 and B12 and would hate to think how much worse it would be if my levels were low. Have you had your levels checked? Also, have you had your thyroid checked? I had labs drawn today to make sure mine is functioning as it should. So many things overlap with autoimmune. Anyway, I hope you have better days ahead and feel rested when you wake up!

I have a lot of fatigue as well. I asked my doc if I try to push through it would it get better, he said to listen to my body. Pushing through would just make it worse. He said to rest when my body needs and when I feel less tired to do more.

so far I don't have that bad swelling, it might be because I am seronegative but I am not sure
I hope you get an answer soon and feel better
