Port Charlotte, FL

When I have pain in my feet it is always with my big toes and just above it, also in my heels. I live in Florida and tend to wear flip flops but I have noticed wearing flat sandals hurt more. Even anything in between the toe is starting to hurt.

Members shared numerous footwear recommendations for painful toes and feet, with Birkenstocks, FitFlops, and memory foam sandals emerging as popular choices, while several emphasized that traditional flip-flops worsen RA foot pain. Many members described practical shopping strategies, including checking sale prices at Zappos and DSW, trying on multiple styles at stores with good return policies like Nordstrom, and buying duplicate pairs of comfortable shoes to prepare for inevitable foot changes. A recurring theme was the trial-and-error nature of finding the right footwear as feet change with RA, balanced with uplifting encouragement about wearing colorful nail polish proudly despite toe deformities and using those moments as opportunities to advocate for rheumatoid arthritis awareness.

Birkenstocks work great for me. But some are more comfortable than others. Try a few on and see what you think. Nordstrom has a great return policy.

I hesitated to wear the bright color as my toes are so crooked and didn't want to draw attention to them but then I thought, "What the heck...they are my toes and I love them anyway!" Besides when asked about them I can speak out and be an advocate for RA.

I wear fit flops, not flip flops, FIT FLOPS. Very thick soft soul. I wear all their shoes. You can get them on Amazon/ I also wear New Balance leather sneakers with custom orthotics. I have flat feet and my bones have a lot of bone damage.
