Members shared mixed experiences with melatonin for sleep, with some finding it helpful for falling asleep when taken 30 minutes before bed, while others reported it had little effect or even kept them awake. Several members described combining melatonin with other sleep aids like trazodone, gabapentin, Benadryl, or CBD, though one member noted concern about conflicting medical advice regarding melatonin and autoimmune conditions. A recurring theme was that sleep remains elusive for many despite trying various remedies, with members still waking frequently throughout the night and feeling unrested.

I take Melatonin every night. It should be taken 30 minutes before you are ready to go to bed. If I take it too soon I sometimes miss that window of sleepiness. I usually get in bed and take it and fall asleep within the 15 to 30 minutes

I think I have become a night owl....Yes, I take Melatonin, and I replaced my allergy med. with Benadryl. I still do not seem to wind down enough to go to bed until 2 AM, sometimes later. Fortunately I am retired and do not have to get up early. I wonder how many hours before bedtime you should take Melatonin? I take it with my evening meds.

My son takes melatonin for insomnia and it helps him significantly. I tried it and it had the opposite effect on me. I was wide awake for hours after taking it. My doctor thought it may have counteracted the elavil I take to help me sleep.

I take 5 mg. melatonin, 600 mg. gabapentin and a Benadryl 25 mg. Last night I slept great...my daughter got her new CPAP machine and both of us slept well. Usually I can hear her even when her door is closed. Of course, the backache this morning was a whole 'nother matter!
