Members shared that cold weather significantly worsens their RA symptoms, with many describing increased stiffness, swelling, and joint pain, particularly in their hands and feet, with some also experiencing Raynaud's disease alongside their RA. Several members recommended practical strategies to stay warm, including layering clothing with thermal underwear and fleece, wearing compression gloves and wool socks, using electric blankets and heated mattress pads, applying heating pads to painful joints, and keeping small space heaters nearby. A recurring theme was that barometric pressure changes often predict flares better than temperature alone, with many members noting they can forecast weather changes days in advance based on their pain levels, and while some found relief moving to warmer climates, others emphasized that humidity and rapid temperature shifts can be just as problematic as cold.

Oh my ladies and gentlemen. The electric blanket is a gift from God. Nothing like being cold and laying in the toasty bed. I have a dual control and I only warm one side b/c when I get too warm, I roll over to the cold side. Lol. Works for me.

I bought a nice and soft heated blanket and use it as a giant heating pad that I can wrap my entire body in for those days that everything hurts, it helps so much and feels great!

I go south to Florida for a few weeks in the winter, usually Jan-Feb. This year without working not sure I can afford it. But it will be in the future plans. It really does break the bone chilling pain. I spend every minute at the Ocean or by the pool, walk, exercise, I become a different person. That's what works for me. Never waste 1 minute of life.

Had RA 9 years. It followed this pattern: get a partial remission every summer until 3rd week of Nov. when weather cools off go into flare. The colder, wetter the weather the worse the flare got. Then start feeling better in summer again. I learned to dread the end of summer. Now I’m in remission but I find I just can’t tolerate going outside in the crummy weather and I have slowed down physically since Winter came. But, no pain so I feel lucky. I think this should get better the longer I am healed.
