New Treatment
Has anyone taken Azathioprine? What was your experience with benefit and side effects? My rheumy said it's a chemo type med similar to methotrexate. I can't take mtx due to RA involvement in lungs. I haven't started it yet as she said just 1/2 pill makes most people sick and I haven't had time for down time if it's necessary. Thanks in advance for your input. 😊
I take 150 MG of azathioprine daily. I have not had any side effects. I am not able to take methotrexate any longer due to getting infections frequently while on it. I also take plaquenil, prednisone and Aleve to control the inflammation and pain.
This is a DMARD. (Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drug.) And as Janet says it is generic for Azasan and Imuran. It works to stop or slow the inflammatory process that can cause symptoms and damage of joints and internal organs in RA. Looks like the biggest thing is sun, take care to cover from the rays. Hugs for YOU!!!
Thank you, Dale.
The only Be Aware I have found is to be sure to use a high factor sunscreen! This med is a DMARD.
Disease-Modifying Anti-rheumatoid Drug. It is usually prescribed as a 'combination therapy' with other
DMARDs or biologic. This is all I was able to scan about this drug.
Big HUGS to YOU!
I'm of no help.
