Working With RA

A myRAteam Member asked a question πŸ’

I can't seem to find any job that doesn't severely effect my RA. I've done pretty much every job from desk work to serving and all of them effect me in one way or another. I'm feeling really helpless and worried for the future. I'm on disability but 930 isn't nearly enough money to live on even in the poor part of town. I'd like to one day get out of the bedroom next to my parents and live on my own, but if I can't find a good sustainable job that doesn't kill me then I'll have to live with my… read more

I work as a Community Nurse, until, last year full, time which usually was in excess of 40 hours a week. I work 30 now and get Personal Independence Payments. I struggle every day but have kept going. I have decided to take early retirement this year, time to put me first πŸ™‚

The only thing I can share is what I did to help myself out when having a bad depressing time in my life and it sure helped change my feeling and good things started happening-----I started a gratitude journal every day 10 things I was grateful for it was hard at times because I did not feel it. But forced myself pretty soon things started changing just little things that made me smile or feel better . The things I wrote were never big just maybe something I had seen or something I had been able to do, just crazy little things .i hope this can give you some hope or make you feel differently .Madeline

I think we can all relate to this. RA gets in the way of my job and my entire life, but I push through it. Is there a job you can find that will allow you to work and yet still take care of yourself - set your own hours and days you work? Can your work from home so if you don't feel well you can lie down or just not do much for a day or two? Do you know what your limits are? That will help in your quest to find the right job for you.

Could you possibly find a tiny home and put it on your parents property? How about working at home for a company that needs customer support group, via internet.😊

I'm in a similar situation I have been in office work for 20 years but bec of RA have permanent carpel tunnel in both forearms. I've tried photography instead but can't move in agony at end of day. I only do babysitting a few hours a week now that's all I can handle. Very difficult to live when Newstart only pay $244 a week and rents are average $400 per week.
