Members discussed whether cortisone shots have the same side effects as prednisone pills, with most sharing that localized cortisone injections did not cause the weight gain commonly associated with daily oral prednisone. Several members explained that cortisone shots deliver a higher dose directly to the affected area without impacting the whole body the way long-term prednisone use can, which is known to cause weight gain, moonface, and potential organ damage over time. A recurring theme was that while cortisone shots can provide temporary relief, many emphasized the importance of consulting with a doctor about long-term steroid use, with some members transitioning to biologics to avoid the harmful effects of prolonged prednisone.

I didn't notice any weight gain from my one cortisone shot. It took away the pain from my shoulder.

Yes, 20 mg is a lot but nothing else was helping. I am down to 10 mg a day but my body won't allow me to reduce past that. Very frustrating. And I have some of the nasty side effects from the pred. But I've been on it for at least 25 years.

Cortisone is a hormone but slightly different, I've had it once and it was extremely painful even with the lidocaine they injected it with. It also made my skin color pigmentation go light. It was extremely painful and even made me shed a tear lol I refuse to get anymore or the gold shot but heard they don't give the gold shot anymore. The cortisone shot is also needed often, usually the people who get it have to go weekly or quite often. Not much info but hope it helps.

Cortisone shot is a one time dose whereas prednisone is an ongoing med and makes the weight gain more prevalent . Bottom line is we have to at home what we put in our mouths. I have gained eight lbs lately by eating junk food while going through a divorce and I watched every bit go in my mouth...lol😋
