I too was put on steroids immediately. Methotrexate was added. When I was still not functional, Remicade was added. As the remicade began kicking in the steroids were decreased. The combo of remicade and methotrexate gave me my life back. My rheumy still will give me a prescription for steroids ( a low dose) to take over the winter months.

I started with plaquenel and prednisone now take methotrexate and orencia also, I try to stop the steroids and manage for a few weeks but severe pain takes over. The Orencia has a lot of side effects and you have to be monitored and blood work regularly. I really don't know that it is helping but I do notice a difference if I don't take it. I will need a knee replacement soon so will have to stop meds. I waited and ignored symptoms for to long without treatment and I am paying for that now.

I have bee on biologics for over 12 years..enbrel, humoral, remicade and orencia. I had to change because at some point the one I was on quit being effective. There can be side effects, but nithing intolerable. Use of biologics has allowed me to be extremely functional. I worked at a high power job, sang professionally, and raise 3 children. Go for it...it will make a big difference.
