Turner, OR

Currently taking three meds, Methotrexate, Plaquinil, Sulfasalizine. Getting worse. Dr wants me to start Humera. I don't want to do it. Researching Methotrexate and others and the long term issues with it. Read about Dr Mercola. Diet , Vitamin D, Omega 3, Astaxanthin. Has anyone tried this or have any information.

Members shared mixed perspectives on the question of trying Dr. Mercola's protocol instead of starting Humira, with most emphasizing that while supplements like Vitamin D and Omega-3 may help, biologics such as Humira, Enbrel, and Orencia have been essential in controlling their disease and preventing joint damage. Several members described their own medication journeys, including combinations of methotrexate with biologics that brought relief after years of pain, while one member mentioned exploring Dr. McDougall's protocol with promising results. A recurring theme was the difficult but deeply personal choice between natural approaches and medical treatments, with many expressing gratitude for biologics that restored quality of life and kept them out of wheelchairs, even as they acknowledged the frustration of trial and error, side effects, and the fear of long-term medication risks.

Check out Dr. McDougall protocol. Have been through same journey. Stopped all meds. Currently on this and wow!. Diagnosed 7 years ago and the pain reduction is amazing. New in this journey and it's not easy but doable and well worth it.

It is a choice I feel we must make. I know I made this decision early on, whether to go the medical way or the
'natural' way or even the eastern meds...I choose the medical world and have not regretted it. Yes, it is trial and error to find the right meds & combination of meds that work, but I am at peace about it. Perhaps trying to eat a better diet is wise, cutting back on processed food, sugar, white foods, but I am not consumed with it. I am consumed with following my medical regiment though. I believe it has given me a great quality of life I wouldn't have otherwise. I had this ed before these wonderful biologics came to be and believe me, you would not want to live thru those dark days. I am so grateful for the enbrel I took for 14 yrs till it quit working & now humira I have taken a year and a half, all along with methotrexate & they have worked wonders for me and kept me out of a wheelchair.

I didn't want to start biological meds but I wanted to slow and hopefully stop any further joint damage. I do take Vitamin D, Omega 3 and Curcumin supplements daily. I added these back into my treatment plan 2 months ago. I have a Rheum appointment next week. Curious to talk to her and see my lab results. I have tried Cimzia, Humira, Remicade and am currently injecting Orencia weekly. I take oral Sulfasalazine twice daily. I had to stop Arava due to my liver enzymes elevating. I take other meds for HTN and Asthma.

Sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time. Prednisone is really the only thing that makes me feel normal but we know it's not healthy long term. I wish we had the answers. I am leaning towards Dr Mercola's protocol before I go to a biologic. Please take care and keep going. Hang in there.
