I have had it done several times. Once when I suddenly became allergic to Synvisc I had a huge swelling redness and I couldn't straighten my leg all the way. My Rheumy does the draining under ultrasound (so he doesn't hit or scrape anything else. This makes it much more comfortable. That time I had almost 80cc of fluid drawn off and there was still some left. I did not, nor do I usually find it to be a painful procedure. I have had it done by probably 5 or 6 different docs. To me it is sort of the opposite, it relieves the pressure and reduces the pain. I was able to move it much better immediately. I still loved my Rheumy when I left ❤️❤️❤️ Good luck to you¡

I can't count how many times I've had my knees drained and almost every other joint. it hurts. the first needle is to freeze. second needle is to drain - now that is a odd feeling. third needle will most likely be cortisone. doctors would bend my knee a few times then I would be in a leg brace for 24 to 48hrs. good luck

I would say that a knee replacement was not too bad & it did help me a lot. After I went through the PT, it was good to be able to walk without pain. The Physical Therapy was TOUGH!! But you have to do it, so you can have the flexibility that you need to walk and bend. The hip replacement surgery on the opposite side of my body, was really an easier recovery. They wanted me to just WALK! I started out with a walker, progressed to a cane, then walking normal.
