All! I was finally contacted by SSA 6 mths after I applied . I filled out all the 545am appt! Whoop! I fiiled out the forms, pulled my e-records from my family doc, rheumatologist, and Ortho doc and submitted them. 2 hour wait at local SS office to meet with someone who sent them on. Took many phone calls and answers a lot of questions! I came to FLA for 6 weeks to get out of the winter cold and the SAA disability moved my case to FLA! They said they couldn't hold it open for 3 weeks until I returned to TN. Really? They took 6 mths to even contact me and then it was my fault I was out of the state! I gave them every doc's info so they could request any file necessary. Instead they sent me to a SS doctor for an "exam". I sat in his office and verbally answered every question that I had answered on the forms I had mailed in. No exam at all! Then I got a call back. The SS disability doctors ordered X-rays of my hands and wrists. Again those are on file with the doctor I had supplied contact info. And seriously? My hands are terribly disfigured! Someone on the street can "see " my handicap! What a waste of yours and my taxes!! Anyway now I am waiting for a determination. I dread the appeal process! So far I have so belittled by the process! I am not a whiner or com

My primary care doctor encouraged me to seek disability, even if just short term. I started crying in her office. I'm 33! I completed my master's degree in nursing two years ago. This is not how I envisioned my life going. My friends say I should just do it and take the time to get well. Going on disability doesn't mean I have to stay on it for the rest of my life. I'm close to accepting that.

I was approved for SS on the first try. I do believe a lot of it goes by proper documentation from your providers and from the SS dr.

@A myRAteam Member so sorry to hear this. I applied online on Sat heard from them on Mon and they made their decision within two months. I was really surprised. I applied for another medical issue I had at the time. They never sent me to other doctors or for further test. I don't understand why they do this. It's the same way with the welfare system. According to them I make too much social security to get Medicaid but half my check goes for medical expenses.every month is a struggle. Well good luck and let me know how this goes. Jeanne

@A myRAteam Member, yes it is a federal program, but the only thing the feds do is issue the payment. It's your state that approves or denies your claim.
