Hi! I have problems with my hands, more so with my right. There are times my fingers are so swollen I can’t make a fist. I am also on plaquenil and sulfasalazine. I started off on plaquenil and my doctor later added the sulfasalazine. I have been taking them both for over two years. He says they’re pretty much the lowest dose meds, compared to all the other RA meds. I do take prednisone as needed for this occasional flare ups. Have you taken any prednisone? My doctor starts me off at 20mg for 7 days, then 10mg for another 7 days then 5mg for the last 7 days. It works well to get rid of the flare up. But I would recommend you look into adding the sulfasalazine. Do your research. He started me off with 3 pills a day, then kept adding. Now I take 6 (3 pills at am and 3 pills at pm) along with my plaquenil (1 pill at am, 1 pill at pm). I also suggest to try turmeric and cbd oil. It takes some time for them to start working, same with the meds. But give it time. Hope this helps and hope you feel better.

If you type a lot and your employer will pay for it, I recommend trying a dictation software like Dragon. Until I got RA under control, I also used a combination of compression gloves, cold compresses, and, fortunately, a ton of patience from those around me.

I have had horrible hand and wrist pain. Penetrex has taken the edge off. It takes several days to make a difference. I also use ice packs. I've tried a couple different brands of compression gloves but haven't found anything that helps.

I have trouble with mine. I've had RA for nearly 40 years and my hands are very crippled and knotty now. I seem to be growing knots almost on a daily basis. Steroids will help for a little while if you can get them. My doctor won't let me be on them more that a few months. I've started Orencia now and I have 2 more weeks of steroids before the doc cuts me off again. It used to be that I lived in strong pain meds, dilaudid, morphine, fentanyl etc. No more. The only thing I can't seem to do without is the prednisone, go figure. If you can take it, Aleve helps some. I haven't found any CBD oil or any cream that really helps much. 40 years and 19 surgeries makes it that much more difficult. But I will tell you one thing that helps me, waking up and thanking God for allowing me another day and trying to smile and laugh even through the pain. Your mindset can make a big difference in your pain level. I've been trying to find alternatives, meditation, yoga, manifesting, crystals... the list of them is almost endless. If nothing else it keeps me focused on something besides pain. Continue to do your crafts, even through the pain. It will keep your heart full and happy and that can make a very big difference. I wish you well and hopefully you can get some relief. Smile 😁 God loves you and so do we ❤
